Clean text off App Store and Play screenshots

Reuse store screenshots without rebuilding every mock: erase UI copy with Select or All text, keep the chrome, then set new labels in Edit.

Store listing screenshots are mostly chrome and a few strings: status bar, tab labels, empty-state copy, a marketing line under the device. Redesigning nine locale variants from scratch burns a week. Erasing the strings, keeping the layout, and writing new labels onto the same plate burns an afternoon.

Specialised text erase on UI lettering — including soft shadows and strokes on buttons — while the device frame, illustrations, and unmarked pixels stay put.

A practical loop

  1. Export masters at the exact pixel size the store wants. Do not downscale into mush, then try to erase.
  2. Upload one frame and decide whether every string goes or only some.
  3. Erase the UI text. Leave the bezel, hero art, and non-text chrome alone.
  4. Open Edit on the erased plate to place new labels, or hand the clean PNG to Figma / Sketch if you need a full layout pass.
  5. Repeat per locale or variant. When the layout is identical, reuse the same Select choices instead of re-boxing from zero.

All text, Select text, Brush

All text finds every word and builds the mask for you. Use it when the whole screenshot should go blank of copy — then restore-brush a status-bar time or a badge you accidentally cleared.

Select text is the everyday store-shot tool. Erase the boxes you tick, or keep selected strings and erase the rest. That second mode is how you keep a marketing caption or a carrier name while wiping in-app labels. A rough box is enough; you do not need to trace every glyph. Glow and shadow on the type leave with the letters.

Brush erase is for leftovers: a small “NEW” chip OCR skipped, a watermark-style stamp on a promo mock, a mark that never became a clean detection box. Paint the region and clear it.

Edit after erase

Once the plate is clean, Edit lets you set new copy without leaving the browser. Push the erased frame into the editor, place labels that match the store locale, and export. If you already have a design system in another tool, export the blank plate and typeset there — erase still saved the rebuild that would have taken longest by hand.

What to watch at 100%

  • Ghosting — can you still read the old string in the grain of a button or card?
  • Neighbour damage — did a logo or illustration next to the label soften?
  • FX — did a drop shadow under the old caption leave with it?
  • Status chrome — if you meant to keep the time or battery, use Keep selected or restore-brush after All text.

Run one locale end to end

Take a single App Store or Play frame, clear the strings in EraseText, set new labels in Edit, and check the listing size. Free to try; a few seconds per erase. If that one frame looks continuous, the rest of the set is repetition — not redesign.
