Common questions about EraseText — the free AI text remover for photos, screenshots, and listings.

Short answers for getting text off an image, choosing All text vs Select vs Brush, and what happens after you erase. See all features, the blog, or the changelog if you need more than a FAQ.

What is EraseText?

EraseText is a free AI text remover for the web. Upload a photo or graphic, erase the lettering, and download a clean plate with the background rebuilt — including glow, stroke, and shadow when they came with the type.

How do I remove text from an image online?

Open the editor, upload a JPG, PNG, WEBP or HEIC (up to 25 MB / 8000 × 8000), then pick a tool: All text for a full wipe, Select text for chosen boxes, or Brush erase to paint a region. Results usually feel like a few seconds end to end.

What is the difference between All text, Select text, and Brush?

All text detects and erases every word for you. Select text shows boxes — erase the ones you tick, or keep them and erase the rest (Reselect goes back to the picker). Brush erase is freehand: paint what should go, including a stamp OCR missed.

Can I remove a watermark or caption and keep the rest of the photo?

Yes. Select text lets you erase chosen boxes (or keep them and erase everything else). Brush erase paints only the region you mark. Unmarked pixels stay as they were.

Does EraseText rebuild the background under the text?

Yes. The erase pass replaces overwritten pixels with a plausible plate so you do not get soft ghost letters. A rough box is usually enough — you do not need a pixel-perfect outline. After All text you can Restore-brush original pixels back where the erase went too far.

Can I add new text after erasing?

Use the Edit tab after All text, Select, or Brush. Pick the erased plate (or the original), retouch, and place your own copy. Download exports the edited canvas.

Do I need an account?

No. You can erase and download without signing in. Email code or Google sign-in is optional. Uploads and results on the standard web product are deleted after one hour.

Is there bulk / folder erase?

Yes — Bulk Erase at /bulk/ runs All text over a whole folder in one batch, up to 100 images, 2 / 4 / 8 at a time on Lite / Pro / Volume+. Each image that erases successfully costs 1 credit, failures are free to retry, and the zip download costs nothing extra. Single images stay free in the editor.

Do you have an API?

Yes. Create a key under Account → Developer and call POST /erase — see /docs/api/ and /g/developers/. One call costs 1 credit, and a new key gets a one-time 50-credit trial. Agents can use the same key over MCP (https://api.erasetext.com/mcp). A plan's monthly credits work on the API too; for volume, the prepaid API ladder on the Developers page is much cheaper per call and never expires.

Where do I get help or report a problem?

Use Report a problem on this page or in Account settings — or email [email protected]. After an erase fails, the error toast also offers Report problem. For what shipped recently, see the changelog.
