What this is for
Hardcoded subtitle lines
A film still or TikTok frame with dialogue burned into the pixels. All text clears the letters. Soft white captions on a busy background usually go in one pass.
Lower-thirds and name plates
News and social clips often sit a name or title on a colour bar. Clear the type first. If an opaque slab remains, Brush the bar after — that is the bar, not leftover letters.
Keep a logo, lose the line
Select the subtitle boxes and erase those, or keep a channel bug and wipe the rest. Rough boxes are enough; you do not trace each glyph.
Letters vs the bar
Lettering is the erase job. A solid colour strip under a lower-third may need a Brush pass after the glyphs go. Compare on faces and edges next to the band before you download.
A still or a screenshot
Pause the clip, export the frame, or grab a screenshot — that file is what you upload. Soft white dialogue on a busy background usually clears in one All-text pass. Two or three stacked lines are the same job: All text for every line, or Select if a channel bug in the same band should stay.
Reuse the still
Once the line is gone, Edit can place a new caption on the clean plate, or export into your usual tool. Same photo, next line of copy. Uploads on the free product delete after one hour — save the clean still before you leave.
Questions
Can I remove hardcoded subtitles from a screenshot?
Yes. Upload the still and run All text. The burned-in line is treated like any other overlay — the letters go, and the pixels underneath are rebuilt.
What if a coloured bar is still there?
That bar is a slab of colour, not type. Brush it after the glyphs are gone. The first pass is for the lettering. Social caption lines live on the Captions page.
Do I need the video file?
No. Upload a frame or a screenshot. Pause the clip, export that still, and run All text on it — the burned-in line is treated like any other overlay.
